Hi.

I've been following the software announcements on the ME lists and I'm
interested in trying out some of the new software they have available
(partly because I'd like to learn the software, partly because it
would be good to be able to answer user questions about it, partly
because I'd like SIPB to have more non-course-six clue :). I'm not
sure what state deathtongue is in or whether it would be a suitable
machine for installing the following. If it is suitable, what would
people think of putting Pro/E/Mech on dt? These would take up a lot
of disk space, and would want to go away if we found other software
we'd want more.

+ Richard

I am very pleased to announce that the new educational versions (fully
functional) of Pro/ENGINEER 2000i and Pro/MECHANICA 2000i are now available
for download to Windows NT/9x/2000 systems. These are the latest versions
without the annoying "educational use only" watermark that has plagued the
printed output of recent versions.

This is a license served product, which means that you must maintain an
active connection to the license server during installation and all
subsequent uses of the code. You must have a valid MIT campus IP address
in order to access the server.

These are large products, about 300 Mbytes each, so be sure that you have
adequate disk space before attempting the installation.

Detailed installation instructions are given on the ME web site under
computing - ProENGINEER - and look for the Windows install area (half way
down the page) and click on item 1. Note that I will be upgrading that
page in the next few days and this will change to become self-evident).

Alternatively go directly to

              http://me.mit.edu/computing/proe2000i/proe2000i.html

Please realize that this is basically an unsupported service that we offer.
However if there are teething problems/bugs with the download procedure,
let me know so that we can streamline the process.

Special thanks to Ebbe Bamberg and Alex Prengel for their help.

Enjoy,

Derek Rowell
