"r.17 Appendix A: Grammar Summary
This appendix is not part of the C++ reference manual proper
and does not define C++ language features.
This summary of C++ syntax is intended to be an aid to
comprehension. It is not an exact statment of the language.
..."
B. Stroustrup; The C++ Programming Language
I laughed when I read that. It was a sick laugh.
As someone hoping to provide tools to support Java programmer and
hoping that others provide programmers tools for me, I want to
encourage the Java development team to provide an "official"
grammar and to ensure that this grammar accurately reflects the
syntax of the language accepted by the Java compiler.
Of course, the best way to do that is to use a parser generator to
implement the Java compiler and then to extract the rules from the
grammar fed to that parser generator.
