Hi folks,

This message is relevant to people on the java-interest mailing list.
The problem discussed does not affect subscribers to java-interest-digest
or any other mailing list served by java.sun.com (as far as we know).

It was recently called to our attention that some people watching both
lists were seeing mail to java-interest-digest that they hadn't seen in
java-interest, although the mail appeared in our archives on java.sun.com
and was getting mailed to some people. The problem seems to have been
that the java-interest subscription list had gotten truncated some time
in the past, and was down to just a few hundred subscribers, which was
implausible.

We have attempted to reconstruct the mailing list from the most recent
backups and the logs of subscription and unsubscription requests. The
reconstructed list is now in place, which should start the flow of
mail to people who had been bumped from the list. If you expect to be
getting java-interest mail, you don't need to read the rest of this
message.

It is also possible that in the process we managed to subscribe some
people that meant to unsubscribe from java-interest. If you get this
message and thought you had unsubscribed from java-interest, please
accept our apologies. You can usually unsubscribe again by sending a mail
message to java-interest-request@java.sun.com with the word "unsubscribe"
in the body. As usual, please don't send an unsubscription requests
directly to the mailing list address -- use the "-request" variant.

If that fails, you may be subscribed by some other address other than
the one on your message to majordomo. You can search the subscription
list for likely addresses for you by mailing
java-interest-request@java.sun.com messages with lines of the form
"which <string>" in the body. Majordomo will respond with a list
of addresses subscribed to java-interest and containing that string.
For instance, the response to a message with "which lindholm" in the
body included:

List Address
====                    =======
java-interest lindholm@scndprsn.Eng.Sun.COM

You can unsubscribe a particular address from java-interest by mailing
java-interest-request@java.sun.com a message whose unsubscribe line
specifies that address, e.g.

  unsubscribe lindholm@scndprsn.Eng.Sun.COM

If all else fails, mail java-interest-owner@java.sun.com and we'll take
care of the problem manually.
