Please don't hate me because I'm a reporter. I've been lurking on this
list for a while and found what you guys are doing fascinating. I ended
up writing a story on it for Web Week and got good response out of it. I
would like to thank all those of you who responded to my last batch of
question. And now Web Week wants me to do a follow-up. The idea is
"HotJava: Hype or reality" and I have to cover the good, the bad and the
ugly in Java development. As such, I figured I would turn to the experts
(you) for interesting insights. Would you please be kind enough and help
me show everyone that Java is an amazing programming language but also
offer cautionary tales as to its dark side?
Here are a few questions I'd like to see answered:
1. What's so great about Java? (I know it but have to have someone else
say it :) ) What does it do that others do not?
2. What are the downside of Java programming? Is there a danger involved
in coding those applets? Are we going to see trojan-infested applets?
I may have more questions in the future but would appreciate if you
answered those 2 for starters :)
