I do not know how many of you are familiar with the (formerly CHRP) PowerPC
Platform Standard.
I think it is a relevant subject, if we are to entertain the
possibility and practicality of porting java to Mac, and allowing the JDK
to be accessible to MacOS users. I am anxiously waiting for there to be a
JDK for Mac, as I do not own any other computers... and do not plan on
spending money to buy a Wintel machine. However, I WILL spend money in
about a year to buy a PPC Platform machine, as I will be able to run MacOS,
Unix(Solaris or AIX), OS2 orWindowsNT on the same machine. This is NOT
currently possible... and I am sure this is one LARGE reason why porting to
Mac is so difficult. It is not only a different OS, but a different
chipset.
Now, to keep this relevant, I would like to know if anyone has
heard ANYTHING about java and mac. I know that in about 4 months
Codewarrior will release a java compiler for the Mac, but in the meantime,
is Sun working on anything? Is anyone else out there a Mac Developer who
can sympathize/empathize with this plight? I thought I saw SOMETHING out
there for Macintosh at MacWorld, but I didn't pay attention and I forget
what the company was. Any help would be appreciated. In fact, if someone
can tell me who to contact for this information I would be most ectatic.
Thanks are in order,
