When does Java come to deal with MAC?

I heard Mac-JDK,named 'Roaster' is shipping now.
But it is so expensive, i think, ya.. 399 dollars a kit.
Sun make an appointment to build JDK for MAC in 1/4 of the year, 1996.
..so..
Can't I run Java on my PowerMAC, right now?
If any ways are existed, please notice it to me.
More cheaper and easier, because I am a student.
