yes, and it doesnt take a multimedia programmer to do that.
i guess i can work around that for now...
i can give it its own thread to get blocked in...
btw, can you say anything about the notion of monitors and ownership
of threads which is alluded to in the documentation for notify() and
IllegalMonitorStateException. i havent seen any explanation.
