Z-order of components

Does anyone know how to change the z-order of components on the screen? For
example if I draw two buttons, and then move them on top of each other, the
one I drew first will always be "on top" of the second one. I need to be
able to change this behavior dynamically. I basically want a toFront() and
toBack() functions at the component level.
