Note: This message was previously sent under a different subject (Netscape
Audio) which was wrong . I figure most people trashed it thinking it didn't
belong to the Java newsgroup. Here's the repost. Sorry.

I can use the sounds supplied in the demos from the JDK, but I can't get
Java to play my own sounds. Where I work, we've converted sounds into every
conceivable format on both the Mac and PC platforms. Actually, we're
focusing on .au and .aif files since Netscape supports these. Most of the
sounds we can drag and drop directly into the Netscape window and they play.
However, when calling sounds with the play() method of the Java API ...
nothing -- no sound.

There are so many flavors of .au files out there. My guess is we haven't hit
the right one yet. What I'd like to know is what Sun uses to create their
sound files for the demos -- what program, on what platform, etc.

If anyone else has already battled with sound files, or knows other things I
can try, I would really appreciate the help. Insight's (where I work)
Christmas party is two evenings away and clients are expecting to see
applets ... with sound.

                              Thanks,
                              John
