"Sun's Java is the hottest thing on the Web since Netcape. MAYBE
HOTTER." - Wired Magazine, Dec. 1995

If you use the WorldWide Web, Java is in your future. As a Sun user
you have a unique opportunity to get a headstart on the technology
that will alter the Web forever. The Sun User Group recognizes that
although the needs of those working with Java will be similar to those
working with any Sun equipment, there will be some major differences.
With that in mind, we are forming SUG's first special interest group:
Java-SIG. Java-SIG will be THE national user group for anyone
interested in developing, publishing or even just playing with Java
and HotJava.

The first step in getting Java-SIG off the ground is our new email
list 'java@sug.org'. Current members of SUG can subscribe to the java
email list TODAY (see below for subscription details). The list is a
forum for the discussion of the needs of Java-SIG members. You may
post questions or items of interest to it and reach hundreds of Java
users worldwide. In the interest of keeping the list non-commercial
advertisements not approved of and posted by SUG are not permitted.

Those currently working with Java who wish to share their developments
and discoveries will find a grateful audience on the Java-SIG email
list. Or, if you currently don't know an applet from a piglet, but
want to know what all the buzz is about, this email list will be a
great place to get started!

Beyond the email list, what will Java-SIG itself be? First and
foremost, Java-SIG will be a channel of communcation, connecting Java
users all over the world. In addition, Java-SIG will be a source of
hot news and information about all the latest Java developments.
Future plans include basic and advanced Java handbooks and a
members-only online library of freeware applets! As you can tell,
Java-SIG is in its formative stages, and SUG needs your help. We need
suggestions, volunteers and good ideas to make Java-SIG THE PLACE to
go when you need, or wish to share, Java information.

Current members of the Sun User Group can join Java-SIG, and its email
list, absolutely free. Your membership in Java-SIG will remain free
for the duration of your current SUG membership year - and your next
membership year (if you renew without your SUG membership expiring).
Currently, non-SUG members will need to join SUG to get access to
Java-SIG. This will change as Java-SIG becomes more developed, but if
you want to get in on Java now, your best bet is to join the Sun User
Group. You can get more info about SUG membership by sending email to
office@sug.org.
