Does test suite enable an embedded subset?

I understand Mitsubishi Electric has licensed Java for embedded systems
programming. I have also be looking at Java with an eye toward
communication devices, however the devices aren't necessarily browsers
(ie. don't refer to things with URLs), and definitely need the ability for
outsiders to add tight code in a device independent way (ie. interpreting
a byte code is ideal).

I'm not sure what the "Java-compatibility" test suite will require,
however there are parts of the langauge (eg. float) and class libraries
(eg. net items) which don't apply to many embedded environments. Is there
a least-common-subset which can still be claimed to be "Java" and still be
used in this environment? What portions does Mitsubishi intend to use?
