We at Bell Sygma are taking great interest in what happens
with Java. Many of the systems we develop are totally based upon
distributed network object management. We're implmenting and reviewing
other off the shelf packages such as Corba and DCE to help faciliate in
our goals.
Java will be used in our quick-hitter Internet related applications.
As for full fledged expert applications, only time will tell. Java will
have to proove itself to be 100% secure, and extremely robust in it's
object management.
Though I haven't studied Java enough, some of the things we're used
to having are templates, and full featured collection classes with
associated utility classes such as in Tools.h++ by Rogue Wave.
Another thing that is an issue is how Sun oriented Java is.
Bell/Bell Sygma is primarily HP-UX, so consequently we *HAVE* to use
Netscape. Of course Sun, being of sound business mind, will promote their
platform primarily, where does that leave anyone else on other platforms.
PC is not an option either, as it's a corporate decision to not upgrade to
Win95 due to instability and incompatiblity issues. WinNT will play a major
roll on the desktop, but not in the near future.
