1) You know when the applet is downloaded. Bill on a per-download
basis.
2) Your applet can submit a usage ticket to a url that points to a
billing CGI script for per-use billing.

Number 2 sounds like an interesting idea. I assume this usage ticket
would be submitted on a periodic basis?
I hope this info provides good food for thought. Let me know of other
ideas you would like to share.
