Lots of people have been arguing about Java slowness. Well, I don't
think it is fare to just say "Java is slow". Has anyone benchmark Java
against other interpreters ? The raw benchmarks I have done indicated
that the Java interpreter (in its current beta state) is one of the
fastest I know of: it is, for sure, faster than any Scheme interpreter
I know, and a little slower than Caml, which is known to be "the"
fastest interpreter.

I don't want to give my numbers here, since the bench I used may
appear as too simple. At least from my point of view, they do indicate
that Java is *not* slow (than all this discussion depends of what you
think slow means).

The Java team has done a great job,

Anselm.
