Hi!
One of the security issues involved in communication on the Internet is user
authentication. There is a widely used RFC protocol called Kerberos. Kerberos
is also user friendly. Instead of typing a username and password for every
single service the network provides, the user is authenticated only once for
a given period of time (usually several hours). Every service the user tries
to access can use that authentication to automatically get the identity of
the user. Using that identity the service can decide if the user is allowed
to access it or not.
People at NCSA are working on a so called kerberized HTTP server (using the
NCSA httpd as a starting point). They also have a kerberized client, a
patched NCSA Mosaic for X-Windows. Is there any chance that it will be
implemented in a Java class so that it can be used from HotJava?
Groetjes,
Peter Busser
