There is a rather good book called "Java!" written by Tim Ritchey and
published by New Riders <http://www.mcp.com/newriders/>. The material
is readable by anyone with intermediate to advanced experience in
programming in C and/or C++, and covers all the features you need to
know to begin writing good Java applets and stand-alone applications.
