Uploading files?

I have just started looking at Java, as a possible solution to the
following problem: We would like to allow users (browsers) to upload
file(s) to the server. Is it possible to do this painlessly via Java?
Of course, the server would have (say) a daemon sitting and listening
on a port for such uploads (or something like that). We have control
over the server; how easy would it be to write an applet that asked
the user to input a filename, and uploaded it to the server?

Thanks much!

Ajay
