protocol classes in prebeta

I noticed that a lot of net protocol classes in prebeta are moved to
classes/sun and they are not mentioned in the document. What is the
reason for this? I would think nntp/smtp/http... are rather hardware
independent. Also since they don't appear in the prebeta document,
does it mean they are not supported and should not be used?
