I am not the person who recommended the book but I can tell you that
the design patterns book that I know of (and have) is "Design Patterns:
Elements of re-usable object-oriented software" by Gamma, Helm, Johnson,
and Vlissides. Good book. If you go to ftp://speedy.cs.uiuc.edu/pub/papers
and /pub/frameworks, there are several useful papers by the various authors of
"Design Patterns."
