Announcing the Java/HotJava Alpha3 Technology Release for SPARC/Solaris
The Alpha3 Technology Release of Java(tm) and HotJava(tm) from
Sun Microsystems is now available for downloading.
Java is a new object-oriented programming language developed at Sun
Microsystems to solve a number of problems in modern programming
practice.
HotJava is a prototype of a dynamic, extensible World Wide Web browser
that provides the unique feature of "executable content". HotJava
brings interactivity to Web pages and showcases many of the
capabilities of the Java language.
The Alpha3 release contains bug fixes and a few new features including
a "stop" button and support for the Gopher protocol. For all changes
since Alpha2, see http://java.sun.com/1.0alpha3/doc/misc/changes.html.
The Alpha3 release supports Sun Solaris 2.3, 2.4 and 2.5 SPARC-based
machines.
The primary goal of this alpha release is to demonstrate the concept
of executable content, and to enable WWW software developers to use
the Java language to create compelling Web pages.
Java and HotJava are available for use without a fee for non-
commercial use (academic, research and internal business purposes).
Commercial licensing terms will be announced in coming months.
For instructions on downloading the Alpha3 Technology Release, follow
