It seems to me that what many people are asking for is (something
like) Modula-3 which has very nice support for the transition between
application (GC'd) and systems (not GC'd) code. Unlike, say, java
(much as I like it), you don't have to drop into C to do
bit-twiddling, so you can keep your data types across both domains.
