Hiya,

I've finally managed to get a prototype of the MetaCrawler working
under Java! Please check it out at:

http://metacrawler.cs.washingotn.edu:8080

What is the MetaCrawler?

The MetaCrawler is a multi-threaded web search engine. Users give the
MetaCrawler a query, and it then submits that query to various Web
engines, such as WebCrawler and Lycos. It then collates the results,
and optionally loads all pages returned to ensure their accessibility
as well as validating they contain useful information.

The JavaCrawler, now available, is a Java prototype supporting
mimicing the MetaCrawler. One substantial improvement over the
MetaCrawler is that the JavaCrawler doesn't use the MetaCrawler as a
middle-man; using the JavaCrawler, user queries are submitted directly to
search engines, rather than going through the MetaCrawler. This can be
of great benefit to reduce overall load, especially for people
connecting from remote sites to Washington.

Feedback and Bug Reports are welcome.

Cheers!
