This is in part because java.sun.com had its Time of day chip go bad.
For a couple of days the machine insisted that it was 2007. Even worse
was that time was jumping backward and forward essentially at random.
Weirdest thing I've ever seen.
I've replaced the board which got things running again.
longer term I'm goig to patch the kernel to just ignore the TOD chip
and run ntp instead.

John is right. The original RFD was issued by Jim Fleming, not by our
group. Then Mr. Fleming dessentially disappeared when it came time for
the CFV. We would have had a newsgroup by now! This has nothing to do
with the premier "internet company" other than we have tried to respect
the process for creating new groups. Orca Starbuck has asked for an
accellerated RFD and CFV in her new proposal so we can hopefully unload
these mailing lists soon.
