OFFICE MEMO HELP! Java client/C++ server? Date:8/24/95

I'm trying to implement a client as a Java applet or application for an
existing C++ server. I can get the client to connect to the server, but they
won't transfer any data.

When I write a simple Java test server, I *can* transfer data between the
client and server.

Is there some incompatibility between Java and other languages as far as
networking goes? Could it be related to SOCKS (which I'm not using)? One
thing I've noticed is that when I print the port number after the connect,
the server will still report the port number that I'm expecting, but the
client reports a port in the 35000 range (much higher than I specified). Any
suggestions would be appreciated!
