Hi Paul,
I wondered the same thing, so I've been busily working with the Usenet
newsgroup creation process to make it happen.
To make a long story short, you should see a new RFD appearing within
the next day or so. The news.announce.newgroups moderator wouldn't
allow a CFV (call for votes) to go forward without a new RFD, since it
has been over two months since the last RFD. However, we will be able
to have an abbreviated (7-10 day) discussion period before posting the
CFV, if all goes well. The RFD and CFV will be posted to java-interest
and java-porting as well as various Usenet groups.
As they say, vote early and often! :-)
