Right. That is exactly why we ended up using '+'. Everyone has
a different combination of special characters that make up the
obvious candidate for the string operator. Ours is '+' and I still
think it is a reasonable choice. Anyway, the discussion is a little
bit futile because it is too late to change (there are oodles of Java 
code out there now).
