ghudson (Greg Hudson):

Out of place, was a crying clown
Who could only frown, but the play went on for hours

And as I live my role, I swore I'd sell my soul
For one love who would stand by me
And give me back the gift of laughter
One love who would stand by me
And after making love we'd dream a bit of style
Dream a bunch of friends
Dream each other's smile
Dream it never ends

I was not myself last night
In the morning light, I could see the change was showing
Like a child who was always poor
Reaching out for more I could feel the hunger growing

And as I lost control, I swore I'd sell my soul
For one love who would sing my song
And cure this emptiness inside
One love who would sing my song
And lay beside me while we dream a bit of style
Dream a bunch of friends
Dream each other's smile
Dream it never ends

All my dreams are lost and I can't sleep
And sleep alone could easy my mind
All my tears have cried and I can't weep
Old emotions may they rest in peace
And dream, dream a bunch of friends, rest in peace
And dream, dream it never ends

-- From Winslow Leach's _Faust_ in "Phantom of the Paradise"

therese (Therese):

Beethoven's gone but his music lives on
and Mozart don't go shopping no more.
You'll never meet Liszt or Brahms again
and Elgar doesn't answer the door.

Schubert and Chopin used to chuckle and
love whiles composing their long symphony.
But one hundred and fifty years later
there's very little of them left to see.

        The decomposing composers.
There's nothing much anyone can do.
        You can still hear Beethoven
        but Beethoven cannot hear you.

        H{ndel and Haydn and Rachmaninov
enjoyed a nice drink with their meal.
But nowadays no one will serve them
and their grave it is left to conceal.

Verdi and Wagner delighted the crowds
        with their highly original sound.
The pianos like Pleyel does still working
but thereabout six feet under ground.

        The decomposing composers.
There's less of them every year.
You can say what you like to Debussy
but there's not much of him left to hear.

        Claude Achille Debussy. Died 1918.

        Christoph Willibald Gluck. Died 1787.

Carl Maria von Weber. Not at all well 1825. Died 1826.

Giacomo Meyerbeer. Still alive 1863. Not still alive 1864.

Modest Musorgski. 1880 going to parties. No fun any more 1881.
