1. To live, love and enjoy life.
2. To find myself.
Here's something to ponder: Oscar Wilde once said there only two
tragedies in life, wanting something, and finally getting that
something. Are we forever doomed to seesaw back and forth between
desire and boredom, between ravenous hunger and satiated complacency?
Does anyone else feel tired of running the maze, tired of chasing the
carrot or seeking higher hurdles to leap? Does our yuppy corporate
dog-eat-dog society allow us to take a much needed, nay, a much earned
detour, a detour from the path of success and material prosperity? A
detour that takes us on a journey of self-examination, an exploration of
our values, goals, beliefs, wishes? Can a person undertake such a
journey without being labeled a slacker? Can we be allowed to seek
inner peace and meaning before we have to seek our fortune in life?
If something as precious as life seems like a burden, if living seems a
tedious chore to be performed, if the days drag by while your life is
wasting away in drudgery, then maybe I'm not alone in wanting a
spiritual sabbatical.
