Sagittarius, week of 7/28:

Here are a few rowdy quotes to guide you trhough the wild blue younder
in the weeks ahead. "All great truths begin as blasphemies" -=-George
Bernard Shaw. "Irreverence is my only sacred cow" -- Paul Krassner
"You are not thinking. You are merely being logical" -- Neils Bohr
to Einstein. "Only the shallow know themselves" -- Oscar Wilde.
Those bits of advice will be helpful, but the following pearl from the
Persian poet Rumi will be downright indispensable: "Start a huge,
foolish project, like Noah."

Despair is the absolute extreme of self-love. it is reached when
a man deliberately turns his back on all help from anyone else
in order to taste the rotten luxury of knowing himself to be lost.
...But a man who is truly humble cannot despair, because in the humble
man there is no longer any such thing as self-pity.

Subject: A new blond joke, really!

This is a true incident, and thought you might enjoy it.

While my wife and I were on our way out to dinner with another couple, my
buddy's girlfriend, a blond, decided to tell us a blond joke. It went
something like this:

The Blond: You guys want to hear a blond joke?
Us: Sure!
The Blond: If you have two blonds and a brunette, what is the brunette
doing?
Me: Interpreting.
The Blond: No, she's translating!

(at this point I almost crashed the car cuz my eyes were filled with tears
from laughing so hard. The boyfriend, trying to help, is attempting to
explain why the three of us are dying. Her next words:

The Blond: But they're not the same thing! One is when there are different
languages.

Fortunately, we reached the restaurant then, because I was unable to drive
much farther before hitting something :)

Subject: True Bravery
Keywords: military, chuckle, heard it

[I heard this from a friend, Sandro Fouche. Don't know
where he got it from]

One day, a general of the army, an admiral, and an air
force general are having an argument about whose branch
of the military is braver.
So the admiral yells to a passing sailor, "Sailor, catch
that falling anchor!"
The sailor snaps to attention, shouts, "Yes, sir!", runs
under the anchor, and is crushed to death trying to catch it.
The admiral turns to the others and says "Gentlemen, that
was bravery."
The army general says, "That's nothing," and yells, "Private,
stop that moving tank!"
The private snaps to attention, shouts "Yes, sir!" and is
crushed under the tank while trying to stop it.
The army general turns back to the others and says,
"Gentlemen, that took guts."
Finally, the air force general takes his turn. "Airman,
catch that landing plane."
The airman snaps to attention and shouts "F*ck you, sir."
The air force general turns to the others and says,
"Gentlemen, _that_ took balls."

Wow, old .plan. I've been busy working on stuff for DCNS and
punting things like mail and discuss and editting my .plan file and
my homepage and such... Now that the milestones are starting to
pass I'll be catching up on some of the `less time-critical' things
  in my life...

Anyway, work is going on and dealing with the Office Of People Whose
First Name is `Dean' is going on, and hacking is going on and
play/fun/twinkie/relaxation stuff is going on, and life is good, at
  least in that respect.

Oh, and now I have this neat little rainbow flag in my cubicle, to
match my plastic fish and my little purple round guy and my Solaris
install disk and my original photograph, titled ``Jik, Rampant,
against a field of Nerd Stuff'', and the Zone's new CD-ROM drive and
a new (slightly larger but much nicer) monitor and a MicroSpeed
trackball instead of that icky mouse (if you can, get one of these.
It's *excellent*.). New toys are Good Things. :-)
