Fri. Mar 4 Fearless [???] 26-100 7 & 10
Architect Max Klein (Jeff Bridges) walks away, almost unscathed, from
the plane crash that kills his partner and close friend, Jeff Gordon
(John De Lancie). After the crash, Max becomes acutely aware of the
intense fragility of life. This film about aloneness and one man's
attempt to cope with near-death also stars Isabella Rosselini and Rosie
Perez.
Fri. Mar 4 Duck Soup [???] 10-250 7:30
As comic relief, Classics presents the Marx Brothers in Freedonia.
Groucho, with his usual bravado marches into and out of Freedonia,
befuddling all who come into contact with him, including himself. He
starts a war and woos the women, either that or he woos the war and
starts the women. Of course, all the Marx Brothers are there, and they
really know how to put on a show, if you know what I mean. Directed
by Leo McCarey (1933, 16mm print).
Sat. Mar 5 The Wedding Banquet [unrated] 26-100 7 & 10
A gay Chinese yuppie living in the United States is forced to deal with
his parents, who want him to marry the right girl. He tells them that he
has found the one, and everything is fine until he finds out that his
parents are coming to America for the wedding. At that point, he and his
lover devise a cunning little plan to fool his parents, and to save the
day. Like most cunning little plans, this one backfires, but in an
amusing way.
Sun. Mar 6 sex, lies and videotape [R] 10-250 7 & 10
All hell breaks loose when a complex and deceitful love triangle between
Peter Gallagher, Andie MacDowell and Laura San Giacomo is disturbed,
exposed and violently shaken up by the arrival of a friend (James
Spader) with a pathos for video. Steven Soderbergh writes and directs
this exploration of the depths of human depravity.
