"Why do you tremble at me alone?" cried he, turning his veiled face
round the circle of pale spectators. "Tremble also at each other! Have
men avoided me, and women shown no pity, and children screamed and fled,
only for my black veil? What but the mystery which it obscurely
typifies has made this piece of crepe so awful? When the friend shows
his inmost heart to his friend; the love to his best beloved; when man
does not vainly shrink from the eye of his Creaton, loathsomely
treasuring up the secret of his sin; then deem me a monster for the
symbol beneath which I have lived, and die! I look around me, and, lo!
on every visage a Black Veil!"
from "The Minister's Black Veil"
Nathaniel Hawthorne

Well, I'm no longer awaiting to hear from EECS whether I've been
admitted to a 5-year masters, because I have. (Yes, I have heard; yes,
I have been admitted.) Now I just have to figure out what impact this
will have on my family plans and the Rest Of My Life(TM). My plans are
so confused and cloudy right now it's pathetically funny.
Short term, I hope somebody at work will know what project I'm supposed
to be working on for the Good of GZA and OpenVision(R), and I'll have to
start looking for a dozen service projects for this fall for APO soon.

Beautification
The Pennsylvania Legislature voted to add the term "aotumotive
dismantler and recycler" to the state statutes. It replaces the word
"junkyard."

THINGS TO DO BEFORE I DIE:
1. Write a book or two.
2. Have a place in the country, complete with old farmhouse and horses
in the field.
3. Fall hopelessly and passionately in love.
4. Get what I deserve.
