edzimmer (Eric D. Zimmerman):

Well, with graduation less than a week away, I think it only appropriate
to insert what will probably be the last of my Tom Lehrer quotes here:

"Bright college days, O carefree days that fly,
To thee we sing with our glasses raised on high.
Let's drink a toast as each of us recalls
 Ivy-covered professors in ivy-covered walls.

Turn on the spigot, pour the beer and swig it, and gaudeamus igit(hic!)tur.

Here's to parties we tossed, to the games that we lost!
We shall claim that we won them someday!
To the girls, young and sweet, to the spacious back seat
  Of our roommate's beat-up Chevrolet.
To the beer and benzadrine, to the way that the dean
tried so hard to be "pals" with us all.
To excuses we fibbed, to the papers we cribbed
From the genius who lived down the hall!

To the tables down at Mory's (wherever that may be),
Let us drink a toast to all we love the best!
We shall sleep through all the lectures and cheat on the exams.....
...and we'll pass and be forgotten with the rest.
Soon we'll be out amid the cold world's strife-
Soon we'll be sliding down the razor blade of life! (ugh...)
But as we go our sordid separate ways, we shall ne'er forget thee,
  Thou [sic] golden college days!

Hearts full of youth! Hearts full of truth!
Six parts gin to one part vermouth!

I almost certainly will not be there, but hey. :-)

When I said that I'd be faithful | When I said that I need you, baby
When I promised I'd be true | When I told you that I really care
When I swore that I could never | When I said that I can't live without you
Be with anyone but you | When I said I'd follow you anywhere
When I told you that I loved you | When I said you could always trust me
With those tender words I spoke | When I said I'd never leave you flat
I was only kidding | Well, guess what? I was only kidding, baby
Now, can't you take a joke? | I can't belieeeeve you fell for that!
				 |	You're so gullible....
"I was only kidding" - Weird Al Yankovic

Now back to your regularly scheduled literature:
-----
When in disgrace with fortune and men's eyes
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man's art, and that man's scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,
Haply I think on thee - and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven's gate;
For thy sweet love remembered, such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.
			- William Shakespeare

"I can't understand you. Do you mean to say that
you...have let him live on after all those horrible deeds?
Now at any rate he is as bad as an Orc, and just an enemy.
He deserves death."
"Deserves it! I daresay he does. Many that live
deserve death. And some that die deserve life. Can you
give it to them? Then do not be too eager to deal out death
in judgement. For even the very wise cannot see all ends."
			- "The Fellowship of the Ring", J.R.R. Tolkien
