celine (Hagbard Celine):

Help! I'm trapped in Houston!

I'm on the move. Moving slowly, but moving.

Travel Plans:

May 2 Senior House, Cambridge

           Fairmont Hotel, San Jose

May 24-27: Comdex
           Georgia World Congress Center, Atlanta

New news:

The Peter principle is again in effect. I am now the head of the Unix
consulting group at Rice. I am interviewing and hiring people.
Responsibilities are being heaped upon me, to see how much work it'll
take to break me. Of course, compared to Unified, this is cake.

Looks like my SIPB guest account is going the way of the Dodo, so
these exciting (tongue practically sticking through cheek) plans are
soon only going to be available on void.rice.edu, and then only when
it's up and running Unix. I'll miss discuss. Hey, if I buy a SIPB a
disk drive, can I keep my kerberos principle? I'm willing to talk
bribery.

Projects:

Slowly paying off my debt to MIT. Will I be class of 89, or something
on the other side of 2000? Inquiring minds want to know (I want to
know).

Finish the X version of titan. Yes, I'm still working on it.

Learn some languages. Spanish, Russian, Japanese. Maybe a continental
language (other than German).

Beat 19 diabolical computer players at expert skill level in a small
dense random universe in Spaceward Ho! (version 3.0.1). Okay, so this
isn't all that likely.

Get olc/olta and Zephyr built and up on the local Sun shop (this time
with official backing), and slay the current problem tracking system
(it runs on CMS, ugh!) residing on the ES/9000.

The local Kerberos war is heating up. V4 or Sandia, Sandia or V4? Keep
in mind we're talking about a production system that needs to work for
three thousand or so users.

Thesis? What thesis?

Lifetime Goal:

"The advancement of science and scientific knowledge."

Don't ask me. It wasn't my idea.

Know Your Enemy

The U.S. Commerce Department told the Mennonite Central Committee that
it may no send notebooks, pencils, erasers and rulers to Cambodian
schoolchildren because that would constitute "developmental aid" to the
Vietnamese-backed Cambodian government, which the United States does not
recognize.
