sethf (Seth Finkelstein):

Reading the newspaper comics, I was struck by how the latest chapter
of the Iran-Contra scandal would make an excellent Calvin & Hobbes strip.

Panel 1 :
(Calvin holding Hobbes, as toy, watching TV. Father is stepping into room.)
TV: "...and those were some of the reactions to the pardons Bush issued today."

Panel 2 :
Father: "I told you not throw rocks at Suzy."
Calvin: "You can't punish me. Hobbes pardoned me. We think Suzy
shouldn't be on the planet, so I was acting for the good of humanity."

Panel 3:
Father: "And you also lied to me when I asked you what you had been doing."
Calvin: "You would've gotten mad at me if I told you the truth. So I made
it my policy to lie to you. Now you're criminalizing a policy difference."

Panel 4:
(Some time later, Calvin sulking, looking discontented at Hobbes, who is
now in full tiger form)
Calvin: "But it works for conservative Republicans."

Levi's as Levelers

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Reagan Brown, defeated for re-election in
the Democratic primary, on the desirability of having everyone wear blue
jeans: "You couldn't tell the Jews and the Texans apart. If we could
get blue jeans on everyone in the world, we would have world peace."
