Here's something fun to do... spend five days at the Midwest Radio Theatre Workshop. MRTW is a gang of people, pros really, that get together once a year to do a workshop on radio drama. MRTW has everything you've ever wanted to know about how to write, act, direct and produce radio drama. Besides courses on writing, directing, etc., there are courses on how to record voices, how to create weird sound effects, and some fun technical stuff. And it goes on for days! It's Very Lively But what's the most fun is on the last day, everyone participates in a live performance. Three or four or more original radio plays are performed. You'll either act in it, make weird sounds, or do technical things. It's performed live on stage before an audience, as well as live on the radio. (It's very lively.) This is not the sort of workshop where you sit and yawn to droning lectures. This is hands on, feet in, breathe in and out, you're working all the time, total participation, every cell of your body and brain... you are totally involved. The energy builds and builds throughout the week and when you hit Friday night's live performance, it's really crazy. People are sitting out there in the theatre. People are glued to their radios. The director swings down his arm, points with his finger, the mike's live, and you're on. And then, following the performance, there's a big party for everyone. Yeaa! You'll meet sharp, creative people like yourself and make some lifetime friends. Believe me, it's true. MRTW is happening October 26-30. It's in Columbia, Mo. A nice town in the Missouri wine country. It's only $225 for five days and they only take 55 people. So step on it. If you've ever wanted to do radio drama, or just get outta the house and meet some neat people and have fun, we highly recommend this one. For complete information, call 314.874.5676 or write to MRTW, 915 E. Broadway, Columbia, MO 65201. * * * "Sometimes the light's all shinin' on me. Other times I can barely see.
