LSC Movies for the weekend of Sep 25 to Sep 27
Fri. Sep. 25 Basic Instinct [R] 26-100 7 & 10
Michael Douglas stars as a police detective trying to track down the
killer of a rock musician. Sharon Stone stars as his biggest suspect,
a novelist who was involved with the musician, and who also wrote
a book in which a character dies in the same way. This movie earned
a lot of criticism for its controversial portrayal of lesbians, but it
still has great sex scenes.
Fri. Sep. 25 Les Diaboliques (1954) [???] 10-250 7:30
In keeping with the weekend's psychotic theme; the abused wife and
mistress of a sadistic headmaster conspire to murder him, then lose
the body after burying it beneath a swimming pool. With Simone
Signoret and Vera Clouzot, directed by Henri-Georges Clouzot. French
w/English subtitles.
Sat. Sep. 26 Lawnmower Man [R] 26-100 7 & 10
Virtual reality is the setting of this gripping screen adaptation of
the Stephen King short story. Jeff Fahey plays the slow-witted
neighbor who becomes a brilliant scientist's (Pierce Brosnan) first
human subject in a highly classified experiment that transforms Fahey
into a psychotic with psychic powers. This film contains
special effects that {\it must} be seen on the big screen!
Sun. Sep. 27 Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown
[unrated] 26-100 7 & 10
Pepa Marcos is having problems. She desperately needs to get in touch
with Ivan, her ex-lover, but he has left her for another woman and
won't return her calls. The mambo taxi is covered in fake fur, the
gazpacho is spiked with barbiturates, and everybody is almost as
stressed as MIT students during midterms. From Pedro Almodovar,
director of {\it High Heels}. In Spanish, with English subtitles.

nightowl (Blodeuwedd):
Why do I try when it's all in vain
The love I sow can only bring me pain
Building castles out of sand and stone
Cause in the end I will still be alone
Upon my face the smiles you see
Only hide the strain and misery
In my youth my world came undone
Right when my life had just begun
-
I know it, I need it
Somehow I must try to love again
I want it, I feel it
I just can't seem to let it end
I have to, I need to
Can't you see it's killing me
-
Precious moments I'll never forget
All our daydreams and the goals we set.
It's so unfair when a life has to come to an end
And to be left behind to try and start again
My eyes are dead, they asee only in black and white
The color of life left with my will to fight
A love so pure that time has become my foe
I want to be free but a new love may never show
-
I know it, I need it
Somehow I must try to love again
I want it, I feel it
I just can't seem to let it end
I have to, need to
Can;t you see it's killing me.

It was 12:10pm - high noon - when the Earth's magnetic 12:10_^Q

Time seemed to slow, with expectation. Above me, a large .

I pedalled furiously along the straightaway. I soon heard WAIT

I hit the second magfield line at the foot of the hill, and

There was a slight wobble to my riding, since Maltman runs
at -5 degrees off magnetic-axis, and I couldn't head at a -5degAdj
