The pun o' the day is:

Isn't this my STOP?!

By the incredible power of computers, my Zippy AI will continue to work
even when I am in Pakistan! I'll be back on Sept 8th, so wish me luck.

edzimmer (Eric D. Zimmerman):

To finish moving (to MacGregor G322) SOON.
Then to get my experiment up and running.
Then to write a thesis about it.
Then to get into grad school.
Then...to graduate.

"I am reminded at this point of a fellow I used to know whose name was
Henry, only to give you an idea of what an individualist he was, he
spelled it H-E-N-3-R-Y. The 3 was silent, you see.
"Hen3ry was financially independent, having inherited his father's tar
and feather business, and was able therefore to devote his full time
to such intellectual pursuits as writing. I particularly remember a
heartwarming novel of his, about a young necrophiliac who finally
achieved his boyhood ambition by becoming coroner....
"In addition to writing, he indulged in a good deal of
philosophizing. Like so many contemporary philosophers, he especially
enjoyed giving helpful advice to people who were happier than he was.
One particular bit of advice which I recall, which is the whole reason
I bring up this dreary story, was something he said once, before they
took him away to the Massachusetts State Home for the Bewildered. He
said, 'Life is like a sewer. What you get out of it depends on what
you put into it.' It's always seemed to me that this is precisely the
sort of dynamic, positive thinking that we so desperately need today
in these trying times of crisis and international brouhaha."

                                            -Tom Lehrer,
                                             "An Evening Wasted
                                              with Tom Lehrer," 1959

emjoseph (Elaine M. Joseph):

Today I was walking along and a squirrel fell out of a tree,
it was really strange, I've never seen that happen before,
he screamed when he was falling, and when his body hit the ground
there was a big thud, he seemed kind of shook up,
but then he just ran away. It was kind of funny.

kagraves (Kenneth A Graves):

NO ONE can stop the EYE IN THE PYRAMID, Lord Julius. We are as SMOKE.
We are your SHADOW. We are EVERYwhere.

Hmm. You're like smoke, you're my shadow, and you're
everywhere. Are you BIGGER THAN A BREAD BOX?

We are the HAMMER OF VENGEANCE. We are the INSTRUMENT OF THE GODDESS'
DIVINE RETRIBUTION. We will CRUSH your BLOATED AND LEECHING
CITY-STATE LIKE AN INSECT...

Oh! So you ARE bigger than a bread box...

...Theirs But to Do and Die

A U.S. military advisor in El Salvador, as quoted by Charles Mohr in the
New York Times: "To a civilian it may sound strange, but one
encouraging sign is that the second lieutenants are starting to die out
there. That means they are making mistakes and their own mistakes are
killing them, but they are leading men and being aggressive."
