celine (Hagbard Celine):

{Written by Pere Calders and translated by John Gateley.}

                             The Tree.

In this life I have had many secrets. But one of the largest, perhaps
the one that was most in conflict with the official truth, is it that
now I find opportune to explain.

On morning, on awakening, I saw that in the dining room of my house
there had grown a tree. But not what you think: it was truly a tree
with roots that pierced the floor and branches that pressed against the
ceiling.

I saw next that this was not a joke, and, not having a loved person with
whom to entrust these kind of things, I went to find the police.

The captain received me, with a large moustache, as usual, and
wearing elegant clothes, which I am not able to explain, because they
were striped. I said:

``I come to you to make known that in the dining room of my house has
grown a genuine tree, without my permission.''

The man, you see, was surprised. He looked at me a short time, and
later he said:

``Its not possible''.

Yes, this is clear. One never knows how these things happen. But
the tree is there, blocking light and doing me hindrance.

These words of mine irritated the captain. He gave a blow on the table
with his hand flat, he raised it and siezed my lapel (like one does
when so angry).

``It cannot be, I said'', he repeated. ``If this were possible,
anything would be possible. Understand? We should have to rexamine
everything our sages have said and we will lose more time than it
seems at first glance. It would be great if in the dining rooms of all
citizens happens things so extraordinary! The revolutionaries would
tip their cap, and return to discuss of the divinity of the king, and
who knows if any power, curiously, will declare war on us. Do you
understand it?''

``Yes, but in spite of all, I have felt the tree with my hands.''

``Come, come, forget it. You will share this secret only with me and
the State will pay well your silence.''

Then he went to prepare a check when my conscience mobilized.
I asked:

``So this is of national interest?''

``And how!''

``Then I don't want not even one cent. I'm all for the native land,
understand? I am yours to command.''

After 4 days I recieved a letter from the king giving me
his thanks. And who, with this, would not feel well paid?

WHY SEX IS BETTER THAN MORRIS DANCING:

 1. You don't need to get seven people together just to have sex.
 2. You don't get sneered at for having sex with members of the opposite
    gender.
 3. Only one person yells at you if you miss practice.
 4. You don't have to have sex at dawn in the wind and cold on top of a
    hill on May Day.
 5. You can keep having sex even after your knees give out.
 6. The kit is cheaper.
 7. People don't keep asking "Sex? What's that?"
 8. No endless debates about sex for social reasons versus sex for
    performance.
 9. You don't have to beg for money afterward.
10. No damn spectators yelling "Higher!!"

Re: 8mm vs. VHS

8mm tape is commonly used to store digital information.
VHS is commonly used to store re-runs.

solo26 (Keith M Swartz):

Look, here's the deal: I'm a second-year grad student. I was 6A with
Digital, but they turned out to be racist reverse-discriminating bastards,
so I quit. I am NOT graduating this year. Why? Because I don't have a
thesis. No, not that I didn't finish it, I don't HAVE one. Why? Because
I'm not interested in anything. What will it be? A masters and bachelors
together. When do I leave? 93 if I'm lucky. 94 if I'm not. Never if
this keeps up. Thank God for the drums.

Now stop asking me.

Dirty Duck

The city council of Helsinki, Finland, canceled library subscriptions to
Donald Duck comic books, city his fifty-year engagement to Daisy Duck
and other indications of a racy life style from which children should be
shielded.
