The symlink is there because I was checking my facts on symlinks/mount points. I didn't know mount points were created with SYS_symlink. Even though SYS_symlink is used to create them, lstat and I will still assert that AFS mount points aren't symlinks. Transarc could just as easily have special-cased some other syscall to create them.
