emison (Sam Grant K Emison):
The preventive check as far as it is voluntary, is peculiar to man, and
arises from that distinctive superiority in his reasoning faculties,
which enables him to calculate distant consequences. The checks to the
indefinite increase of plants and irratioanl animals are all eithe
postiive r if preventive, involutary. But man cannot look around him,
and see the distress which frequently presses upon those who have large
families; he cannot contemplate his preent possessions or aernings which
he now nearly consumes himself and calculate the amount of each share,
when with very little addition they must be divided perhaps, among seven
or eight, without feeling a dobt whether, if he follow the bent of his
inclinations he may be able to support the offspring which he sill
probably bring insto the world. In a state of equality, if such can
exist, this would be the simple question. In the present state of
society other considerations occur. Will he not lower his rank in life,
and be obliged to give up in great measure his former habits? Does any
mode of employmeent present itself by which he may reasonably hope to
maintain a family? Will he not be unable to transmit to his children
the same advantages of education and improvemntn that he had himself
possessed? Does he even feel secure that , should he have a large
family, his utmost exertions can seve them from rags and squalid
poverty, and their consequent degradation in the community? And may he
not be reduced to the grting necessity of forfeiting his independence,
and of being obliged to the sparing hand of Charity for support?
These considerations are calculated to prevent, and certainly do
prevent, a great number of persons in all civilised nations from pusuing
the dictate of nature in an early attachment to one woman.

FAMILY VALUES: OURS AND THEIRS
by Paul Varnell
One of the most entertaining -- if possibly apocryphal -- anecdotes
about Mahatma Gandhi is the one in which some foreign journalist is
interviewing Gandhi and asks him, "What do you think of Western
Civilization?" The story goes that Ghandi looked thoughtful for a
moment, then brightened up and said, "Why, I think it sounds like an
excellent idea!"
Unbidden, that old story comes to mind when one hears claims made for
"traditional values" or "family values," especially when those terms
are uttered as slogans by fundamentalist religious groups or
opportunistic politicians.
The marked failure of "family values" to have any meaning beyond the
polemical seemed particularly clear in a recent California news item.
Last Easter some gay demonstrators protested the apparently homophobic
teaches [sic] of the Rev. Glen Cole, the pastor of a fundamentalist
mega-church in Sacramento. According to the valuable reportage of
Marge Covino, a young 14-year-old church member named E.J. Byington
went over to the demonstrators and told them that it was fine for them
to be protesting and that, contrary to what Rev. Cole taught, he
himself saw nothing wrong with them.
Later that day, Byington was beaten with a strap by a 21-year-old
cousin in the Marine Corps and thrown out of his home by the aunt with
whom he was staying. The aunt claimed that young Byington had
disgraced her, ruined her business, and that she could never go back
to that church again. Nor would the aunt let Byington take his
clothes or his bicycle with him when she expelled him.
With friends like that, "family values" scarcely needs enemies....

The map scale of a hex in TSR's Gamma World is given as "roughly

amount of about 27.3 miles....

suresh (SURESH ADINA):
1) To find a job preferable in the Boston area.
2)To find a friend who:
Is so special
Is so dear
Lends a hand or a buck or an ear
Knows you are gloomy and asks "what's the matter?"
Doesn't mind if you're thinner or fatter
Makes you cheerful
Makes you glad
Always tells you that your hair is not that bad
Hopes you are happy and things about you
And comes up with crazy things like this. :-)
If you are one of them, then we are friends.
3) To try Solicit Physics and get the Chemistry working for
Biological needs ( a very scientific approach).

Life can be short or long
Life can be right or wrong
It's upto you
Make the right decision!!
******************************
Let somebody know you're caring
Take time to listen to
What they want so much to tell you,
For the gentle folks are few.
You are not so high and mighty,
That you cannot spare a smile,
For you never know when you might
Need somebody after-while.
*****************************
I have heard that it all depends
Upon your point of view
The happiness you get from life,
And how things look to you.
And the longer I am living,
I've realy come to see,
That is just as true a fact,
As anything could be.

Now for a little pun:
Watson(to Sherlock Holmes): What kind of school did you go to, to
become such a good detective?
Holmes: Elementary Mr Watson, elementary.
