YOUNG LEFTIES INJURED MORE:
Left-handed kids are 1.7 times more likely than right-handed
kids to be accidentally injured and need emergency care, a study
says. Dr. Charles Graham, University of Arkansas, Little Rock,
presented the findings Wednesday at a Ambulatory Pediatric
Association meeting in Baltimore. The study of 761 kids showed
that accidental injuries were twice as common among male lefties.

LEFTIES SEEN AS CLUMSY:
Parents are more likely to view their left-handed children as
clumsy, a study reveals. Lefties were also more likely to have
been previously hospitalized for accidental injuries than
right-handed kids, says Dr. Charles Graham, University of
Arkansas, Little Rock. The cause is uncertain, says Graham, but it
may involve the brain's wiring or the way society is designed for
right-handers.

Subject: How to embarrass yourself in front of CFI's ans FSS's

Went for an instrument cross-country last night from Flying W to
Salisbury, MD (N14 to SBY), shot 4 approaches at SBY in moderate
to severe turbulence. Boy, will that humble one quickly! I was
rotten! I actually pegged the ILS twice, in both directions.
Outbound for the ILS 32, SBY FSS asked if I was experiencing any
turbulence...

ME: 83T, That's (Ooof!) affir (Ooof!) mative. (ROWR!)

SBY: Reason I asked, is a Tomahawk reported MDT to SEV out there
     20 minutes ago, at 2000' (I'm at 2000).

ME: I'd have to (OOOOMPH!) agree (ROWRRRR!) with him (HUGE gust
right here, my finger is still on PTT switch) "^#&&(@%$@$#!"

SBY: (laughing in his chair on the ground) Is that a Pilot report, 83T?

ME: (red-faced) Oops...sorry. You could consider it one, I suppose.

SBY: OK, report the marker inbound.

ME: Roger, marker inbound (Ooof) sorry about the language earlier.

SBY: That's OK, you should have heard the Tomahawk...

Climbing out, on the way back, I saw 54kts GS on the LORAN. A little
windy...when we leveled off at 5.5 the groundspeed went up to a whopping
90 knots. Oddly enough, the winds decreased with altitude: that's
maybe the first time I've noticed that. Had about a 20 kt headwind
at 5.5, 30 or more at 2.5.

Another oddity: Atlantic City was calling their surface winds 080 at 6.
20 miles W, I had about 310 at 30 at 2500 '.

The REALLY strange thing I'll put in my next post.

Phil Jern
