aras (Sheldon Robinson):

"You know what's so strange about this place?"

	"What"

"It's like I'm surrounded by more people here than I ever have
in my entire life."

"Yeah. I know. Isn't it great! Just like being at the center
of the world."

"Yet at the same time I feel alone."

Hi! Its amazing how much information can be shared through
finger files, so I will see what I can do to tell you what you want to
know about me, but if there is something that I forget/don't mention
feel free to ask.

Major: Right now, officially I am an economics major in my
third year here. I just declared computer science as a second major,
so I will be getting out of here in '94, not '93 (I must be nuts!).
I enjoy both subjects, but find I have more motivation when it comes
to computer science. Of course, this will hopefully all just be a
good basis for law school (my ultimate goal being to become a
corporate lawyer). As for why I am at MIT, well, for one, according
to the Gorman Report we have the number one econ department here, but
also because my interests also lie in computer science (what I would
want to do if I wasn't set on being a lawyer) AND, finally, MIT is
world reknowned.

Hobbies and Interests: Well, there is a lot I like to do but
I'll try and keep it to a minimum. As to sport I'll play just about
anything but baseball/softball. I especially like squash, soccer, and
scuba diving (I just got my open water certification two summers ago).
I have also been very involved with weight lifting for just over a
year now, spending 2-3 hours in the gym six days a week. I
am an active sister in Alpha Chi Omega, and do not know how I
would have survived here without this sisterhood.... It really is
awesome, but its also hard to describe just what the bond means/feels
like. I'm also very into photography, mostly pictures of everyday
life and nature, but also the occasional portraits. When I am not at
school I work for the department of defense as an engineering aid at a
Navy research lab in Panama City, Florida (where I am currently from).
I also grade C programs for 1.00 (the introductory C course here at
MIT).

Physical Description: I am 5'4", weigh 130lbs, have blonde
hair and big brown eyes. I don't wear/need glasses (which bothers me
sometimes because I definitely feel like I am in a minority). I would
consider myself a very conservative, yet fashionable dresser. Almost
preppy-ish, but never really outrageous, although I have been a little
more adventurous the last few times I have gone shopping.

As to literary, musical interests, well it varies a great
deal. First, music, I listen to everything from top 40, to haus, but
don't like heavy metal very much, and except for Randy Travis' Old
8x10, and Garth Brooks' albums. I don't like too much country. Now
books and authors... Like music my taste varies. I enjoy an
occasional trashy romance novel, have read all of V.C. Andrews' books,
but have also read all of Tom Clancy's novels, and thoroughly enjoy
Dickens, both Emily and Charlotte Bronte, Daphne Dumaurier, D.H.
Lawrence (Lady Chatterly's Lover was an awesome book). I could
probably go on and on, but I won't...

From: A Tale of Two Cities by Dickens

A perfect description of MIT:

It was the best of times, it was the worst of time, it was the age
of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief,
it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was
the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter
of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we
were all going direct to heaven, we were all going direct the other
way---

=====================================================================

From: The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

That's my Middle West---not the wheat or the prairies or the lost
Swede towns, but the thrilling returning trains of my youth, and the
street lamps and sleigh bells in the frosty dark and the shadows of
holly wreaths thrown by lighted windows on the snow. I am a part of
that, a little solemn with the feel of those long winters, a little
complacent from growing up in the Carraway house in a city where
dwellings are still called through decades by a family's name.

From: Julius Caesar by W. Shakespeare

Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world
Like a Colossus, and we petty men
Walk under his huge legs and peep about
   To find ourselves dishonorable graves.
Men at some time are masters of their fates.

Between the acting of a dreadful thing
And the first motion, all the interim is
Like a phantasma or a hideous dream.

therese (Therese):

Bits and pieces, bits and pieces.
        People.
People important to you, people unimportant to you cross your
life. Touch it with love and carelessness and move on.
There are people who leave you and you breathe a sigh of relief
and wonder why you ever came into contact with them.
There are people who leave you and you breathe a sigh of remorse
and wonder why they had to go away and leave such a gaping hole.
Children leave parents; friends leave friends, acquaintances
          grow apart.
        Enemies hate and move on.
        Friends love and move on.
You think of the many who have moved into your hazy memory.
You look on those present and wonder.
I believe in God's master plan in life. He moves people in and
out of each other's lives, and each leaves his mark on the
other. You find you are made up of bits and pieces of all who
ever touched your life, and you are more because of it, and you
would be less if they had not touched you.
Pray to God that you accept the bits and pieces, in humility and
wonder, and never question and never regret.
Bits and pieces, bits and pieces.

                                - L. Channey

Subject: Usenet Oracularity #394-03

Selected-By: Greg Wohletz <greg@duke.cs.unlv.edu>

The Usenet Oracle has pondered your question deeply.
Your question was:

> tell me

And in response, thus spake the Oracle:

} The Oracle has considered your question and has pondered over
} the truths for which you search. In it's wisdom it has scoured
} through a labyrinth of fable to present you with that most rare
} thing - the story for all ocassions.
}
} Hansel and Red Riding Hood went to visit the gingerbread house
} containing three bowls of porridge. One large bowl, one medium
} bowl and one small bowl. Suddenly, from the top of the house
} dropped a mane of golden hair and the cry "Rapunzel" echoed
} through the air, immediately followed by seven persons of
} restricted growth and a pale-faced beauty rushing through the
} nearby forest. Underneath the mattress of the large bed lay a
} pea, and on top lay a dog called princess. The beast woke up
} upon hearing the sound of the beauty and commented on what nice
} plants she had. Horrified, Cinderella (for that was the
} beauty's name) threw the plants to the ground and was amazed
} to see that one of them immediately sprouted and grew up into
} the sky. As the merry ensemble of beauty, beast, seven dwarfs,
} red riding hood, hansel, the three bears, a number of different
} wolves (one dressed as a granny), Jack, a goose in the process
} of laying a 24-carat egg, a giant and talking cat all looked up
} into the sky, as the beanstalk (for such was the plant), along came
} a feathery biped, called Chicken Licken, who told them all that
} the sky was falling down.
}
} Then it did.
