But that koan doesn't quite work as a koan. "You cannot fix ... with no understanding of what is going wrong.". Think about it for a moment. Whatever action under discussion doesn't work for the novice, because the novice doesn't understand. It's not necessarily a problem (in terms of consistency) that it works for the master, as presumably the master has an understanding of what is going wrong. It's not a paradox, but an assertion that one must be in touch with the hackerverse. Maybe the physical explanation is quantum bogodynamics (from the jargon file).
