I used a workstation for the first time today. It was great being
the only person logged into a machine. As I typed on emacs, each
character appeared as I typed it.
I'm behind in physics and chemistry, the usual paper is due
Thursday, and there's a race all day Sunday.
[Back then I had an account on prill, a time-sharing machine. A load of
20 was not uncommon. When using emacs on prill, I would type a
sentence, and then wait for the characters to echo before continuing.
Some people would type in whole paragraphs without seeing them. When I
first ran xload on a workstation, I thought it was broken because there
weren't any lines.]
