CHICAGO (UPI) -- Thieves swooped down on a young woman struck by a
hit-and-run driver, and they stole her purse as she was dying in the
street from her injuries, police said Saturday.
Authorities said the robbers rifled through the woman's pockets and
apparently tried to pull three gold rings off her fingers before running
off.
The woman was struck by a car on Chicago's West Side about 11 p.m.
Thursday. Onlookers then set out to steal from her. One witness told
police an unidentified man took her purse before paramedics arrived.
The woman was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital. Authorities
couldn't make an identification, but family members saw her picture in a
television news report Friday and contacted the Cook County Medical
Examiner's Office. She was identified as Latheresa Hudson, 20.
Working from clues from witnesses, police were searching Saturday for
the brown car that struck Hudson and fled the scene.
