brlewis (Bruce R Lewis):

[1991 - Five years ago, when I was a freshman, I kept a journal. I was
just going back through it, and it was interesting to me to see what my
perspective was back then, when I was fresh out of high school and a
woman student was ``a girl.'' It may be boring for you, but that's what
you get for reading CA. :-]

It was a fluke. I got 94/118 on the first chem test and class
average was 82. I know I didn't understand the material as well as most
people. However, I got 6 good hrs sleep the night before, approached
the test calmly, and used all the available time.
I overheard a girl at lecture yesterday saying, ``I've gotten 9 hrs
sleep in the last 4 days!'' That is probably the explanation for why I
outdid the average student.

"I feel as if I am a spider residing in the corner of a B747, incapable
of comprehending its destination and knowing the forces that built this
machinery."

"I think I am designed by a force I can not content with, living in a
world that really doesn't exist anymore. I believe in the basic law of
natural selection where those achieving the greatest reproductive
success are selected for, but I do not have any child. I also believe
hunting is one of the most crucial step in the evolution of Homo
sapiens, but I do not cosume any meat. We do not know how much things
are capable of changing, but at least we are sure that we can rise and
revolt. The evolution of life on earth does not tell us what is correct
and what is wrong or that we have to base living on the exercise of free
will."
