SAN FRANCISCO (UPI) -- Ted Maschal is so angry over his arrest for
drunk driving, he's breathing fire. Literally.
Maschel, a local night club performer, was stopped on his motorcycle
last February by California Highway Patrol officers who suspected he was
driving under the influence. A series of field sobriety tests were given
and a pair of breath tests showed his alcohol content to be .08 and .09,
respectively.
On Wednesday, Maschal unveiled his defense for a jury.
He took the jurors to the Hall of Justice parking lot, stripped to
the waist and began to performance his act.
Maschal is a fire eater and claims the kerosene he uses in his act
caused the breath test machine to go haywire.
After his demonstration, Maschel was given another series of breath
tests, which broke the machine.
The trial, which continued Thursday, has put Maschal's career on hold
for now.
``I'm waiting to see the outcome of this before I make any plans,''
he said.
