ambar (Jean Marie Diaz):
Seen on alt.sex.bondge:
Subject: Driving
According to the July 14 San Francisco Chronicle,
"Sexual sadists usually are also people who like to drive a lot."
Ooooh! Sounds right to me! I just love the sensation of being in
control of several thousand pounds of wildly careening steel!!
(Ambar again: if it's wildly careening, you're not doing it right....)

awmlim (Amy W. Lim):
The most important step to friendship
is tossing out all the patterns and molds
and just taking the clay in your hands
with a vision of forever
and getting dirty. -- P.E.
Do not walk behind me; I may not care to lead.
Do not walk before me; I may not care to follow.
Walk beside me, and be my friend.

johnpaul (John-Paul B Clarke):
I don't know what a plan is,
When all the world's a stage;
All I do is smile alot,
And try to contain the rage.

Article 2623 of rec.humor.funny:
I just saw on the local news that they finally constructed the Babbage
Machine over in England, a "computer" that was designed nearly 100 years ago.
So you can imagine everyone's shock when, as the crank was turned for the
first time, the little paper tape printer used for recording results punched
out:

sethg (Seth A. Gordon):
It's amazing how effective one can be with an obnoxous smoker simply by
pullinga fire extinguisher off the wall, levelling said extinguisher at
the face of said obnoxous smoker, really up close and personal, so close
all they can see is this big nozzle, and TELLING (politely), not asking,
TELLING them to put it out or you *will* put it out for them.
I did this once to the Chairman (Prof. Larry Feeser) of the Civil
Engineering Department at RPI. I was a grad student. He was smoking in
*my* computer room. He refused to flame out when I told him to do so
politely. Side comments:
"Bill, are you _sure_ you know what you're doing?"
"Ohmygod, he's gonna waste Feeser!"
...and everybody else just sort of backed away, just like in those
westerns when two guys decide it's time to "settle this man to man" and
the whole bar clears.
By the way, Feeser didn't back down until I pulled the pin and started a
countdown. He had guts, I gotta give him that.
Moral: it's good to have guts, but it's even better to be able to fake
uncontrolled sociopathic tendencies.
2nd Moral: threatening the Department Chair and winning causes immediate
elevation of status among ones erstwhile peers to somewhere just above
"deity" and just below "department secretary".
3rd Moral: if you have strong ethics, someone is sure to come by and
test them. This is a strong argument for weak ethics.

tytso (Theodore Y. Ts'o):
Never blame the rainbows for the rain
And learn to forget the memories
That cause you pain
The last whispered wish of age
Is to live it all again
So never blame the rainbows
Never blame the rainbows
Never blame the rainbows for the rain
