				ON EARTH
			 by Forugh Farrokhzad

I never wanted to be a star
		in the sky's mirage,
		a select soul
or an unspeaking friend of angels.
		I never left the earth
		or took up with stars.

		I stand on the earth
and my body like a plant
		absorbs wind, sun, and water
		to stay alive.

		I'm looking out the window.
		I'm an echo,
		not eternal,
and look for nothing but a song's echo.
In the wailing chant is joy
and better than the plain silence of pain.
		I look for no refuge
in the dew lily of my body.

People walking by have written memories
with a black line of love
on the walls of my life's cottage.
		Arrows are in my heart,
		the candle is upside down.
What are left are quiet dots of faded colors
		in puzzling words of madness.

		Every lip against my lips
		conceived a star
and floated on the night river of my memories.
		What good is a star?

Well, I am now back from Magyar Koztarsasag (that's Hungary to you non-
Hungarian speaking-types). It was lots of fun. Now I'm trying to get back
into the swing of things here at good ol' MIT (and take full advantage of the
fact that I am now 21).

Also, as you may have noticed, I am not in the MIT phone book.

Rhythm 1: Lust

There's things that you guess / And things that you know
There's boys you can trust / And girls that you don't
There's little thing you hide / And little things that you show
Sometimes you think you're gonna get it
But you don't and that's just the way it goes

Rhythm 2: Brass in Love

Oh so much love / That you've never seen
Let's make love / Put your trust in me
Don't you listen to what they told you
Because I love you / Let me hold you
Dot
Dot
Dot

--"I Want Your Sex", George Michael, _Faith_

People / You can never change the way they feel
Better let them do just what they will / For they will
If you let them / Steal your heart from you

In the future:

2/23 MIT Concert Band Tour Finale Concert
	2/27 :-) somebody's bday :-)
3/1 interview with Consulting for Management Decisions
3/2 Brass Ensemble concert at Symphony Hall
	3/17 Kristine's bridal shower (Don't get wet :-) )
other stuff to do:
get you-know-who to stop procrastinating and find that other
trumpet player for the brass quintet
ditto for finding out where to get a canopy
(in the Fall River, MA area)
	who's gonna read the readings??
who's gonna hold up the canopy??
make corsages and other flower stuff
more burning questions to come...

Words-n-stuff for the day:

In his '90 Usenix presentation, Dennis Ritchie reminded the audience that
Steve Jobs stood at the same podium a few years back and announced that
X-windows was brain-dead and would soon die. "He was half-right. Sometimes
when you fill a vacuum, it still sucks."
-- Dennis Ritchie, coinventor of Unix, from an article in Unix Today

sker (Mic.O.):

To open the sky.
For the steel grey traps me.

Waiting for a storm to churn the sky into bright blue again.
Waiting.

I leave my jacket open as I am alone on the crowded street.
The icy gusts remind me I am alive.
But the wind feels me, and leaves me.
Sweet and fleeting.

...I knew another caress once...

Never again...
