ankleand (The Analog Kid):

SUPPORT OUR TROOPS IN OPERATION DESERT STORM.

IF YOU ARE A 'PROTESTER' AND DRIVE A CAR, USE
PETROCHEMICALS, WATCH T.V., USE ELECTRIC ENERGY
IN ANY OTHER WAY, LIKE TO TRAVEL WITHOUT FEAR
OF TERRORISM OR PREFER TO KEEP WARM IN THE WINTER
	THEN FUCK OFF.

celine (Robert Fullmer):

This plan is only a pointer.
That is, there is no memory allocated for it.

debbo (Deborah A Birnby):

almost anyone can learn to think or believe or
know, but not a single human being can be
taught to be. why?

because whenever you think or believe or know,
you are a lot of other people, but the moment you are being
you are nobody but yourself.

to be nobody but yourself -- in a world which is doing
its best night and day to make you everybody else --
means to fight the hardest battle any human being
can fight, and never stop fighting....

does this sound dismal? it isn't. it's the
most wonderful life on earth.

-e e cummings

dschmidt (Dan Schmidt):

I am a man
A man with four fingers
A man with four fingers on my hand
I am a man
A man with four fingers
But that doesn't count my thumb.

I am a man
A man with three fingers
A man with three fingers on my hand
I am a man
A man with three fingers
But that doesn't count my index finger
                       or my thumb.

I am a man
A man with two fingers
A man with two fingers on my hand
I am a man
A man with two fingers
But that doesn't count my middle finger
                       my index finger
                       or my thumb.

I am a man
A man with one finger
A man with one finger on my hand
I am a man
A man with one finger
But that doesn't count my ring finger
                       my middle finger
                       my index finger
                       or my thumb.

I am a man
A man with no fingers
A man with no fingers on my hand
I am a man
A man with no fingers
But that doesn't count my pinky or
                       my ring finger
                       my middle finger
                       my index finger
                       or my thumb.

Negativland, "Four Fingers"

jcbourne (Juliet C Bourne):

DREAM OF THE BLUE TURTLE: I had a dream last night. It gave me quite a
fright. I was walking along a beach, With the ocean just out of reach,
When a turtle came up to me And said that he needed me. So I said to
him, "Do you always follow whims?" And he said to me, "I just want to be
free." I thought about that for a while And then I gave him my smile. He
tried to wear it well, But my smile soon fell. I tried to think some
more, Yet soon my head became sore. Wanting to say something true, I
said, "I am sorry you are blue." And said he, staring at the ocean,
"What we need is a good love potion." While I was wondering about that,
The blue turtle became a cat. When I tried to pet him, to my dismay, The
turtle, as the cat, ran away. I followed the turtle for several hours.
When I finally found him, I gave him flowers. The blue turtle said to
me, with a grin, "It is my heart you hope to win." Said I, sensing the
dream's end, "It is sad that we can only be friends. And by the way,
Who is John Galt?"

Unbridled nationalism, as distinguished from a sane and
legitimate patriotism, must give way to a wider loyalty, to the love
of humanity as a whole. . . . The concept of world citizenship is a
direct result of the contraction of the world into a single
neighborhood through scientific advances and of the indisputable
interdependence of nations. Love of all the world's peoples does not
exclude the love of one's country. The advantage of the part in a
world society is best served by promoting the advantage of the whole.
Current international activities in various fields which nurture
affection mutual affection and a sense of solidarity among peoples
need greatly to be increased.

Distressed by the Bush policies, but proud of our soldiers.
I hope and pray for their safe, quick return.

Walter Cronkite put it well after Bush's speech. Both those who
support the war and those who oppose it feel that their side of the
argument is the best course for the US to follow. Neither side can
rightly claim that only their side is patriotic or that the other side
is unpatriotic.

paul (Paul Boutin):

Overheard at my first NCD company meeting yesterday:
CEO: "Are there any new people here? What about that guy in the stripey shirt
and tie -- is he with us?"
Human Resources Director: "Yes, that's our new Software Engineer from MIT."
CEO: [laughs] "No, that can't be him. Let's find out who he is."

You'll break the string, when I reel you in
Don't take off flying all on your own
When you finally come knocking, there'll be nobody home
